The QuickTime VR B5 Panoramas
QTVR, or Quicktime VR, was the only way to create 360 degree panoramas at the time. Since then, there have been several other more user-friendly ways of doing them, but the basics remain the same.
The first step in creating the panoramas was to contract out the work. We chose to work with Janie Fitzgerald of Axis Images based on seeing some of her work at a QTVR demonstration, as well as working with her before on some Lois & Clark panoramas. Janie's setup used a standard 35mm camera with a wide angle lens, along with a tripod and a marker on the tripod with various degrees on it.
Once the set was lit, Janie would increment the camera a certain number of degrees until she had completed an entire circle. Then, using the Qucktime VR software, the pictures were "stitched" together and a final MOV file was created.
I have provided links to the QuickTime VR movies below. They all turned out extremely well, but the Customs Area one has one problem area in the ceiling grid near the back of a certain portion of the panorama. If I get time, I will put each panorama on a separate page with my comments.
